More Letters Concerning the Salt Price Gouge Issue

                                                                        12-28-08

Dear Senator Barrington,

I am very disappointed that you chose to fail to answer my letters of 4-24-08, 7-27-08

and 10-2-08.   This corporate prison is in your district. Does this failure mean that prisoners trapped in this torturous hellhole can obtain no relief or political representation? Your record definitely shows that GEO prisons corporation is very well represented by you. In fact, the entire Oklahoma legislature seems determined to approve GEO-written legislation with machine-gun rapidity.

Due to the deregulation-caused mega-thefts and years of pointless, malanthropic “wars” (pre-emptive attacks), you people are going to sweep up hundreds of thousands of morehomeless, brand them “criminal” for trying to survive and need dozens more megaprisons to keep them enslaved, while you are putting these secret plans into effect, I hope you will consider getting off the 750-minimum innocents trapped in Oklahoma prisons, and perhaps begin thinking about catching the actual culprits. These 750 are only the innocents who are able to prove that the police deliberately stole DNA evidence to prevent exoneration. The prime example of this is my own case, displayed on my site, www.jamesbauhaus.com. The actual number of innocents is much higher, (see: “Stealth Rights Robbery”).

Though you are safely re-elected, this does not mean that government could not use some good public relations. Fewer people than ever are fooled into thinking that only business is responsible for the current depression. It would be a good, humanitarian gesture if government and its politicians took a moment out from serving the merchant class and did something for the innocent people before immediately returning to servicing the merchants.

 Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Bauhaus:

I regret to inform you that the ACLU of Oklahoma is unable to assist you in the complaint you filed with the affiliate office. This inability to represent you is not a reflection of the merits of your case. Due to limited financial and human resources, the ACLU of Oklahoma is only able to represent a small fraction of the people who file complaints.

The ACLU cannot advise on what the time limits might be or any deadlines that you may be facing. Additionally, should you be faced with any deadlines, it is important for you to understand that you are still responsible for those deadlines. You may contact a private attorney for further counsel or seek other alternatives for the resolution of your problem. Once again, please accept my deepest regret that the ACLU cannot provide you with assistance. I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Jacquie Hall,

All this verbiage to say, “We don’t have enough money or people to make the prison corporations quit price-gouging captives on salt and pepper. Sorry.”

RE: FTC Ref No. 22822339

Dear James Bauhaus:

Thank you for recent correspondence. The Federal Trade Commission acts in the public interest to stop business practices that violate the laws it enforces. Letters from consumers and businesses are very important to the work of the Commission. They are often the first indication of a problem in the marketplace and may provide the initial evidence to begin an investigation. The Commission does not resolve individual complaints. The Commission can, however, act when it sees a pattern of possible violations developing.

The information you have provided will be recorded in our complaint retention system. This computerized system enables us to identify questionable business practices that are generating numerous complaints and may be in violation of the law.

Thank you for providing information that may be used to develop or support Commission enforcement initiatives.

Sincerely Yours,

Consumer Response Center

In Re: Price Gouging

Dear Sir or Ms:

GEO Prisons and Keefe Canteen Corporation together have confiscated all the salt and pepper shakers out of their inmate dining halls. They sell tiny packets of salt and pepper that were never intended for sale. (See enclosed samples). They sell ten packets each for 33 cents, which equals $45.00 a pound for the salt, and $135.00 a pound for pepper. This outrageous price-gouging on salt and pepper is but one example of the many other issues of price-gouging practiced by these two corporate entities. (See Commissary Menu, attached).

This is a nationwide price-gouging effort that has gone on for years despite our trying to obtain enforcement of the law for 18 months. We have had no success at enforcement of the anti-price-gouging laws despite numerous letters each to the: Oklahoma Health Department (emphasizing that strenuous exercise without salt can cause heat stress, heat stroke and possible coma or death); Oklahoma Corporation Commission; Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson & his Consumer Protection Unit; Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry; Oklahoma Senator Don Barrington; Oklahoma Representative Don Armed; U.S. Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe; Federal Trade Commission; ACLU; CURE and many others.

This illegal price-gouging occurs nationwide, is ongoing, has occurred for years, and affects all of GEO/Keefe Corporation’s over 300,000 victims. GEO/Keefe has, in effect uncovered a way to corner the “crack” market and force its “addicts” to pay sky-high prices for its “drugs,” except that salt is required for life to exist, yet costs only pennies per ton to produce. Worse, GEO/Keefe’s “lobbying” Oklahoma politicians has apparently made them above the law in this respect and immune to enforcement of the law. The elected and appointed officials in charge of protecting us from this merciless exploitation are apparently profiting from it.

In words similar to those spoken to the British Empire by Mohandas Gandhi (Indian nationalist & spiritual leader, assassinated, 1869-1948). we ask you, “is there any way we can get affordable salt?”

Thank you for your assistance,

Sincerely,

James Bauhaus

Dear Sir, Is there any way to get Oklahoma officials to enforce the Sherman and Clayton Acts? For almost two years we have tried to get numerous Oklahoma agencies and officials to make GEO/Keefe canteen corporation(s) (Centrics Group) to stop price-gouging us with their monopoly that forces us to pay $45/lb for salt, and $135/lb for pepper. The efforts we’ve made to effect enforcement are seen on www.jamesbauhaus.com/AGsaltl.tif

Apparently GEO/Keefe have a very strong hold on Oklahoma officials. Attorney General Drew Edmondson (R) is planning on becoming governor and needs campaign cash badly. Our being branded criminals by the state is no excuse for them exploiting us so mercilessly.

Please exert some quality control on our officials. We really do need the law enforced in the matter of price gouging and monopoly.

Thank you very much for any assistance you may provide.
